我国零售行业市场研究报告内容简介:
Founded by Sam Walton (1918-1992), Wal-Mart is the world’s
largest retailer, bigger than Sears, Kmart, and J. C. Penney combined.Wal-Mart operates 3,600 Wal-Marts, Sam’s Club membership-onlywarehouse stores, and Wal-MartSupercentres worldwide with majoroperations in Canada, Latin America and Europe as well as Asia. Inrecent years the company has expanded into the German retailmarket. However, Wal-Mart is a fairly new entrant to the foodbusiness and only opened its first food and non-food Supercentre inMarch 1988. The company serves over 100 million customersworldwide weekly.
Most Wal-Mart Supercenters are open 24 hours a day and a typicalSupercenter has an average sales space of 181,200 square feet andstocks 100,000 lines. The general merchandise area of eachSupercenter is organised around 40 departments. Generalmerchandise includes clothing, car parts, pet food, pharmaceuticals, toiletries and gardening equipment. Food lines include meat, produce, delicatessen, bakery, frozen foods and ambient groceries.Speciality in-store concessions are also available including Tire &Lube Express, Vision Centre opticians and photo processing booths.
Wal-Mart is extremely competitive on price, A Goldman Sachs
survey found that Wal-Mart was up to 17% cheaper than its rivals inthe US across a typical basket of groceries. However, mostconsumers are aware of Wal-Mart’s competitiveness in the foodsector and therefore the chain’s advertising has focussed on the rangeand quality of both food and non-food goods available.
