Start by mentioning that Nokia has a long history in radio technologies. In1967 Nokia began its generation of manual radio telephone systems (not the world's first in this case, however)
1969 - Nokia introduced the world's first 30-channel (Pulse Code Modulation) transmission equipment conforming to CCITT  standards (Consultative Committee on International Telegraphy and Telephony). Digital equipment.
1982 - Europe's first digital exchange, the DX 200. A great success and is still the basis for Nokia's network infrastructure today. Digital equipment.
The Mobira Talkman, launched in 1984, was the first transportable phone. In 1987 Nokia introduced the first handheld model: the Nokia Cityman.
1991 - From the very beginning, Nokia has been one of the main developers of GSM technology. Also in1991, Nokia made agreements to supply GSM networks to nine other European countries.
1994 - Nokia Mobile Phones was the first manufacturer to launch mobile phones for all major digital systems: GSM, GSM 1800 (PCN), TDMA and Japan Digital.
1997 - this list was made complete with the addition of Nokia's CDMA and GSM 1900 mobile phones.
